Acrylic on Wood
Cielo painted freely, and before long, what began to emerge looked to me like a purple, green, and white elephant. I took some black paint and traced over what was already there, giving shape to our animal, elephants have always been ours. Then I handed her a marker so she could keep layering markings across the canvas. As she worked, she told me a story about mosquitoes attacking the elephant. And somehow, it made perfect sense. There will always be things in our way, my love. But like our elephant, we will stand strong…together. Also I painted an elephant mural for her nursery, so I like to look at this as her painting one back for me. The art process between her and I is so beautifully coincidental.
