An Agreement With Nature

Stories pressed into wood and sealed in resin, with feathers and leaves held inside like breath.

Why wood

Wood is the rarest material in the universe. Out of everything scattered across the dark, only here did the light and the soil and the rain agree to make a tree.

Look closely at a plank and you'll find its marks and grooves, the rings it grew one season at a time. They curl the way the lines on your fingertips curl. A tree keeps a fingerprint too.

So I print on it. I lay our faces and our stories over its story and let the grain show through, so the tree keeps speaking under the image. Then I pour epoxy resin over it and set in what nature hands me: a feather, a sprig of pine, a leaf. The resin holds them the way amber holds a moment.

Every piece is a print of a print. The tree's, and ours.

Portraits on wood, sealed in resin

Four who broke free

Each portrait is printed onto wood and covered in resin with plants or feathers. Each one carries a guide: a raven, the birds, the moon, a single white candle.

Keeper of the Wolves

In the old Celtic wood there lived a goddess of the forest. The wolves slept at her feet and the ferns bent toward her when she walked. She kept them all, and she thought that keeping was her whole life.

Then a raven landed on her arm. It had crossed the whole forest to tell her one thing: you are allowed to leave the clearing. You were meant to break free.

She listened. The wolves stayed close anyway, because what is truly yours follows you out.

Mother of the Rainforest

She is the mother of the rainforest, and the canopy breathes with her. Amber hangs at her throat like a drop of old sap that remembers everything.

The birds set her free. They left her their feathers, green and blue and black, and those feathers now sleep in the resin across her shoulder.

She was never rescued by anyone. Nature itself set her loose, one wingbeat at a time.

Guided by the moon

Lone Wolf of Boston

He walks the city at night, between the brick and the harbor, alone but never lost. The full moon rises behind him and lights the way.

Pine needles rest in the resin at his edges, a piece of the woods he carries through the streets.

Some of us are made to run with the pack. Some of us are made to follow the light alone until we find our tribe.

A priestess in a golden hooded robe holding a white candle, a full moon behind her head
Guided by a white candle

Priestess of the White Candle

She holds a single white candle, and it is enough. The moon makes a halo behind her. Gold runs down her robe like wax slowly finding its way.

White for clarity, for protection, for beginning again. She doesn't need the whole path lit. She needs the next step.

Stand in front of her in the dark and the resin catches the light, as if the candle burns for you too.

The collection · An Agreement With Nature: Coincidence

Paintings

Original works that follow the quiet patterns of the natural world, where nothing is random and everything is connected through timing, intuition and awareness. Most were made on wood, some out in the rain or at the edge of the sea.

The Bridge, Acrylic on wood

The Bridge

Acrylic on wood4 × 6 ft$4,000

Peace in depth, in texture, in color, and most of all in reflection.

Read the story

I wanted to continue my work on wood and paint something that carried the weight of peace. When I visited the ICA and stood before a Monet, I felt that peace in his brushstrokes. I returned to my studio wanting to create my own. I loved the idea of placing something man-made within nature, not as intrusion but as harmony. Only later did I learn that Monet, too, once painted a bridge in the woods for the same reason: to symbolize the link between nature and humanity. What a coincidence. Or perhaps the same truth arriving twice, once in his hands and once in mine.

Portal To Heaven, Acrylic, clay & lavender on wood

Portal To Heaven

Acrylic, clay & lavender on wood32 × 48 in$3,000

Heaven is built from what we love, and from what we recognize in others.

Read the story

In this piece I paint my vision of a portal to heaven. We must see ourselves reflected in each person we encounter and allow that reflection to guide our growth. Within the ruins of this piece rests a mirror, so that whoever stands before it becomes part of this heaven too.

Flow of Her Heartbeat, Acrylic on wood

Flow of Her Heartbeat

Acrylic on wood36 × 36 in$2,000

A heartbeat that belongs to me, yet beats with the world around it.

Read the story

This piece captures the raw pulse of my heart as if it were rising from my chest. The fiery center glows with life, radiating outward into cool currents of turquoise, the meeting of blood and breath, fire and water. The lines trace rhythm like waves on shorelines: fluid, unplanned, coincidental with the movements of nature.

Eloherfish, Acrylic & seawater on wood

Eloherfish

Acrylic & seawater on wood36 × 36 in$1,500

I brought a wooden plank to the beach and let the ocean guide my hand.

Read the story

One night I dreamed of a fish I searched the world for. My journey led me to a pool party with my family from Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, and while playing in the water with the children I found it. The love I felt for it carried the same warmth I feel for my daughter. The waves carried the paint, the sand left its traces, and the seawater became part of the piece: a collaboration with nature, alive with coincidence.

In the Light of Her Moon, Spray paint, acrylic & oil on plywood

In the Light of Her Moon

Spray paint, acrylic & oil on plywood2 × 4 ft$2,000

I broke free to fly, and the lone wolf found his tribe.

Read the story

This painting tells the story of one of the most transformative times of my life. I was looking for my voice and a deeper sense of self. The lone wolf represents a partner who brought out the best and the worst in me. He was the mirror I needed to break free from my cocoon. Together we made a beautiful world, yet were universes apart.

Baptism, Mixed media on wood

Baptism

Mixed media on wood3 × 6 ft$2,000

Left out in a rainstorm, layered with paint and water over and over.

Read the story

Initiation into spirituality is more than pouring water. It is understanding water itself: its power, its memory, the way it sustains life. I have always felt myself to be of the element of water. One night after painting, my phone lit up with an alarm reading “moon water.” I had never set that alarm. Maybe it was water speaking back, reminding me that we are blessed with every drop.

Wisdom, Fire burning, acrylic & charcoal on wood

Wisdom

Fire burning, acrylic & charcoal on wood3 × 4 ft$3,000

I played with fire to burn contrast into the wood.

Read the story

Owls have always spoken to me, symbols of wisdom since Athena. Trees, water, fire: who is wiser than the elements that have witnessed all things? I used them all here. On the back I inscribed a poem meant to bring wisdom to all who touch it. Soon after, a publisher reached out about a book. Their name? Purple Owl.

Imaginary Elephant, Acrylic on wood

Imaginary Elephant

Acrylic on wood3 × 4 ft$3,500

Painted together with my daughter, Cielo.

Read the story

Cielo painted freely, and what emerged looked to me like a purple, green and white elephant. I traced over it in black, then handed her a marker to keep layering. As she worked she told me a story about mosquitoes attacking the elephant. There will always be things in our way, my love. But like our elephant, we will stand strong, together.

La Sirena, Acrylic & oil on wood

La Sirena

Acrylic & oil on wood3 × 4 ft$1,000

“This painting is not yours, but you will profit from it.”

Read the story

Mermaids have visited me in my dreams many times. One night I dreamed I was painting many shades of blue and many mermaids, and my ancestors whispered those words. When I painted the piece in waking life, my mother looked at it and asked, “Is that a mermaid?”

The Divine Feminine, Graphic design on wood, mixed media

The Divine Feminine

Graphic design on wood, mixed media30 × 45 in$1,000

Different tongues, same truth.

Read the story

A manifestation of the union of all spirituality. Studying the Bible, the Qur’an and the Bhagavad Gita, I see how nature itself delivers messages from God, and how there is always a teacher guiding us toward the light.

The Divine Masculine, Graphic design on wood, mixed media

The Divine Masculine

Graphic design on wood, mixed media30 × 45 in$1,000

A blending of the teachers, the elements, and the mirror.

Read the story

Jesus, Buddha, Krishna. The Muslim tradition is woven in too, not through images of the Prophet but through the colors, the geometry and the symbolism that honor the essence of the faith. We are all reflections of this divinity.

Flow of Frequency, Charcoal & spray paint on an attic floorboard

Flow of Frequency

Charcoal & spray paint on an attic floorboard18 × 42 in$3,000

No pretense, no plan. Just presence.

Read the story

On a warm July day I set an intention to surrender. I reached for an old floorboard from my attic, a can of blue spray paint and some charcoal, and let my subconscious speak. One month later, after four doctors told me I could not conceive, Cielo Snow Ross was forming in my womb. What a coincidence.

Hummingbird, For my mother

Hummingbird

For my mother$2,000

A hummingbird’s heart beats 250 times each minute.

Read the story

To my mother, the woman who moves a mile a minute. It felt right to honor her with the grace and dazzling, unstoppable energy of this tiny bird. Both find their joy in a field of flowers. I wish you many more fields in this lifetime, each one brighter than the last.

Dancing in the Rain, Acrylic on canvas

Dancing in the Rain

Have you felt the freedom of dancing in the rain?

Read the story

I was lost in the flow, searching for nothing but movement and feeling. I didn’t set out to paint a woman, and yet there she was, emerging from the colors. Maybe some spirits only appear when we open ourselves to being drenched.
